Coaching Tip 2 from PGA Pro Phil Weyman
Lessons
Having talked to many golfers over the years, I have had a very mixed response to the question of having golf lessons.
Some players, both accomplished and beginner alike, seem to have the idea that lessons are a waste of money and would do nothing for their game. It has even been mentioned that their game would actually get worse!
This of course is nonsense. If it were so, then why do all the tour players have a coach to keep an eye on their golf swing, even their caddies step in sometimes to point out faults developing in their swing, giving the player the chance to eradicate these before they become engrained into their technique.
Golf lessons should really be seen as an investment in your golf game and can sometimes be more beneficial than purchasing new equipment, and when all said and done, a lot less expensive!
Whether you are an accomplished player or a beginner, a lesson now and again can really help you maintain consistency and improve certain aspects of your overall game.
Remember you don’t have to just have lessons on the golf swing. You can have one on your putting, short game or bunker play - all areas where you can really save shots in a round of golf. Furthermore, as your short game improves, you will relax a bit about your long game as you won't be anxious about missing greens.
So if you are serious about improving your golf then why not book yourself a lesson and you will surprise yourself as to how much you can learn in just half an hour with a qualified PGA golf instructor. Even if he/she makes only the smallest of changes to your technique, with a little practice, it can pay great dividends ultimately making your golf more enjoyable.
